Dear Families of
Lunenburg Academy,
Another
September and another month of exciting beginnings. Lunenburg
Academy has a mix of both new and returning staff, students, and
parents. It promises to be a unique year for all of us.
As part of the preparation for our
mid-year move to Bluenose Academy, some changes in school
administration and staff have occurred. Gord Walters is principal
of both Lunenburg Academy and Centre Consolidated School. His
office is at Centre and he will be at the Academy through the year.
The vice-principals for the Bluenose Academy are Paula Baker
(Centre) and Ann Moore (Lunenburg Academy). As the principals
designate, here at the Academy, I am thrilled to be back serving in
the same role I held from 1993 1996. As a former teacher and
administrator in several local schools, I look forward to getting to
know the parents of our students, many of whom I taught in earlier
days!
Several specialty staff members are
working at both schools this year, which will enable students to
become familiar with them prior to our move. These include the
program areas of music, physical education, French (grades 4 and 5),
and program support.
We will ask you to complete and
return the following forms:
?
Update Registration
form
?
Display and
Distribution of Students Creative Work
?
Allergy Survey
?
Volunteer Form
?
Flouride Consent Form
?
On Track for Learning
Student Form
?
Activity Release Form
(for walking/bussing trips in Town of Lunenburg)
?
Parents wanting to
transport children other than their own must complete a J form.
Please note that there is no school
for students on September 29 and 30, as these are professional
learning days for staff. We will align curriculum in both schools
and will take part in planning for Bluenose Academy. As well, there
is no school for P-2 students only on September 23, so that staff
may take training on literacy. On Sept. 23, students in grades 3-6
inclusive will have school as usual.
Student fees this year (in addition
to the $35 school supplies fee) are as follows:
Grades P 2 . . . . . . . $ 5.00
(cultural events, guest speakers, etc.)
Grades 3 6 . . . . . . . $10.00
(agenda, cultural events, guest speakers, etc.)
(Please make
cheques payable to Lunenburg Academy.)
Student Accident Insurance The
school district carries liability insurance, but does not have
accident policies that cover student injury. The School Insurance
Program website is
www.sip.ca and contains valuable information for parents such as
how to make a claim, claim forms, and a copy of actual insurance
policy so parents can determine what benefits are available to them.

Please remember Lunenburg Academy is
a Peanut-Safe School. This means that everyone is to
refrain from bringing peanuts and products that contain peanuts into
the school.
In order to effectively manage the
access into the school, we will continue to make the side door the
sole entry for parents and students in the morning. All of the
other doors will be locked during school hours. We would also
remind you to refrain from dropping off your children before 8:15 in
the morning. Students are asked not to enter the school grounds
before the bell rings at 8:15
when the Breakfast Program is open
for business.
The staff at the Academy is committed
to very relevant and exciting goals in teaching and learning. We
are continuing to focus on the best ways to meet the academic and
non-academic learning needs of each student with the ultimate goal
of encouraging all students to be life-long learners.
Yours sincerely,
Ann Moore,
Vice-Principal
